The Council on Aging is charged with the responsibility of advocating on behalf of the seniors of Belmont and with ensuring that their social, financial and healthcare needs are met. Services include transportation for shopping and medical needs by reservation; nutrition services, (meals on wheels and daily luncheon); social services ( confidential referrals and help with concerns); programs and newsletter (cultural, educational, recreational, holiday observance, entitlement, athletic, and social). |

In order to guarantee we will have enough meals for everyone, you MUST register for lunch by 11:30 a.m. the day before a meal (that means by 11:30 on Friday for a Monday meal and by 11:30 the day before a holiday closing for a meal after the holiday). The food is ordered in advance. Meals are open to anyone 60 or older and there are no income restrictions. The suggested donation is $1.75, but please give more if you can. |

The Council on Aging transportation dept. offers rides for medical purposes to Belmont and surrounding areas, and will also offer rides for social purposes (i.e. hairdressers, local shopping) on an as needed basis, subject to availability. Medical rides supersede all others. Suggested donation for a ride from the Council-On-Aging for any purpose is $2.00 dollars each way. |

The Alzheimer's Association has a wealth of resources for families facing Alzheimer's disease - information, support groups, local medical resources, news, and events. They provide a great of funding for Alzheimer's research and sponsor many fund-raising events across the country. |

Springwell is an Aging Services Access Point (ASAP) serving Belmont, Massachusetts and surrounding communities. ASAPs operate under a state contract to coordinate and deliver a wide range of services to senior citizens in their regions. |

For seniors who live alone and cannot prepare food for themselves, Meals on Wheels can be a godsend. Friendly volunteers deliver meals and often can provide some social stimulation in an otherwise lonely day. Recipients must be at least 60 years old. Services can be for a short period, such as recovery from surgery, or for an indefinite period. Meals are federally subsidized under the Older Americans Act. Springwell's Meals on Wheels coverage area is Belmont, Brookline, Newton, Watertown, Wellesley, and Weston. |
