Concord's COA hired a new director, Ginger Quarles, in the summer of 2011. The Concord COA is very active, sponsoring activities and events from its home in the Harvey Wheeler Senior Center.

The YES Club for Young Energetic Seniors offers a range of activities in the community and out of town, and the Friendly Visitor Program helps to prevent isolation from seniors who find it difficult to get out of the house.

At the center, there are a wide range of services (health services, tax prep assistance, heating fuel assistance, computer classes, etc) and interest groups.

Concord's COA offers a van that operates Monday through Friday, except for holidays between 8:40 AM and 4.00 PM. It is best not to schedule late afternoon appointments, to avoid schedule problems. Within town limits, a $2 donation for a van ride is requested. A wheelchair accessible van is also available.

The Council on Aging can provide transportation on a first come, first served basis to Concord seniors around town for doctor's appointments, trips to the bank, haircuts, visits to a friend, events at the Council on Aging and so on. The Council on Aging van runs Monday through Friday, except for holidays. The first pickup of the day is 8:40 AM and the final pickup to return home is at 3:30 PM.

The donation for a van ride, within the town limits, is $2 round trip. We recommend that you make appointments as early as possible (they can be booked weeks ahead). Individuals riding the Council On Aging van must be able to get on and off the van independently or must bring an escort to assist them. Emergency information must be on file in the office for seniors riding on the van. Please call 978-318-3020 to book your ride.

We are happy to provide a variety of shopping opportunities each month, but it is important that you call for a reservation in advance. You may sign up at any time. To save room, each shopper is limited to five (5) shopping bags. The van driver will help carry your bags if you are unable to do so.

The COA also has a wheelchair accessible van. If an individual cannot propel their own chair to and from the van, they must have an escort to assist them. This is a curb to curb service.

THE RIDE serves 62 Massachusetts towns with service for registered customers. Vehicles have lifts to accommodate as many as possible for this invaluable paratransit service.


For seniors who live alone and cannot prepare food for themselves, Meals on Wheels can be a godsend. Friendly volunteers deliver meals and often can provide some social stimulation in an otherwise lonely day. Recipients must be at least 60 years old. Services can be for a short period, such as recovery from surgery, or for an indefinite period. Meals are federally subsidized under the Older Americans Act.

If you love good food, the weekly Wednesday lunch is for you! Each Wednesday at NOON a group from the community caters a great, nutritious meal. Their is a $2.00 charge. You must call the COA, at (978) 318-3020 to make your reservation no later than Monday. On the first Wednesday of each month we celebrate all of the birthdays that fall in that month. After the meal, all are welcome to stay for bingo.

Newbury Court, a not-for-profit residence, has been in Concord since 1994. The community offers a variety of living options and choice in services. Newbury Court provides a continuum of services and amenities as client needs change. Should a client find the need for further assistance with household chores or personal care, rather than trying to find the help, or worse, consider relocation, the community coordinates the provision of those services in the home. If rehabilitation or nursing care should become necessary, Newbury Court is home to Rivercrest Wellness and Rehab.
